The short version: Votur is built to be kind. You own what you create and only share what you have the right to share. Every new poll is screened before it reaches the public feed, and we have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. There are no comments and no direct messages. Welcome to Votur. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Votur application, the votur.app website, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). Votur ("Votur", "we", "us", or "our") is operated from the Netherlands by its founders, who together are your contracting party under these Terms. (A Dutch legal entity is being incorporated and will take over as the contracting party; we will update these Terms when that happens. You agree now that we may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to that entity — nothing else about your rights will change, and we will let you know.)
The Service is available as native apps for iOS and Android, and on the web at votur.app. That includes the moment someone opens a shared poll link in a browser and votes without installing the app or creating an account — these Terms apply there too.
A "poll" (called a "Duo" in the app) is a question with two options that other people can vote on.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service. If you use the iOS app, the additional terms in Section 14 apply.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service — or older where local law requires it (for example, 16 in the Netherlands and other EEA countries that set the age of digital consent at 16).
If you are below the age of digital consent in your country, you may use Votur only with the consent and involvement of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service.
By using the Service, you represent that you meet the minimum age that applies to you and, where required, that a parent or guardian has agreed to these Terms. We rely on this representation and do not verify ages. If we become aware that a user does not meet these requirements, we may suspend or terminate the account, and we will delete its personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.
When you first open the Votur app, we automatically create a guest account — a random identifier that lets you browse, vote, and set preferences without telling us who you are. Browsing and voting never require signing in.
You can optionally sign in with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and password (you will be asked to confirm your email address). We receive only the basic identity information you authorise during sign-in. When you sign in from a guest session, your guest activity (such as votes and preferences) becomes part of your account where technically possible.
Creating polls requires a signed-in account and a public @username. Usernames must not impersonate any person or brand, infringe trademarks, or be offensive; certain names are reserved or blocked. We may refuse a username, require you to change it, or reclaim it — for example in cases of impersonation or trademark abuse.
You are responsible for the activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. Guest accounts that have not voted for an extended period (about 90 days) are deleted automatically; any votes they cast are kept in anonymised form. Signing in with a real account prevents this.
We may restrict or terminate access if we reasonably believe a user does not meet the eligibility requirements or has materially breached these Terms.
Votur is a visual decision app. It lets you:
Translation. Polls may be automatically translated so people who speak other languages can read them: we store a machine-generated English version of a poll's text where needed, and viewers may see your poll machine-translated into their own language (translation happens on their device where possible). Translations are automated and may contain errors; the original text remains the authoritative version.
The Discover feed is ranked. The main parameters, in plain language: how recent a poll is, how many votes it still needs to give its creator a useful answer, how much voting activity it is currently getting, your selected interests, content languages and explore regions, the topics you have engaged with before, and whether you follow the creator. You can influence this ranking at any time by editing your interests, languages, and regions in the app, and you can switch to the Following tab, which simply shows polls from creators you follow in chronological order. Discover asks you to vote on the current poll before showing the next one — that is the point of Votur.
You control your polls. As a creator you can make a poll public or private at any time, set it to close automatically after a deadline or a number of votes, close or reopen it manually, post it anonymously (your profile is not shown as the creator — see Section 8), and delete it at any time. Votes cannot be cast on a closed poll.
Voting on the web. Anyone can vote on a poll from its share link at votur.app in a browser, without the app or an account. Web votes count toward the results, are limited to one vote per poll per browser, and are rate-limited to prevent abuse. These Terms — including the Acceptable Use rules and the ban on vote manipulation — apply to web voting as well.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time.
When you create polls or upload images ("User Content"), you represent and warrant that:
You retain the rights you have in your User Content. By submitting it, you grant Votur a limited, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, translate, process (including automated analysis for safety, topic tagging, and translation — see Sections 4 and 6), create derivative renderings of (such as thumbnails, share-card images, and translations), display, and transmit your User Content. We use this license solely to operate the Service:
Share-card images rendered from your poll include Votur branding or a votur.app watermark.
This license ends when you delete the content or your account (Section 11), except for the residual copies described in Section 8 (such as previews already cached by other platforms) and the safety records described in Section 11 (the log of moderation decisions).
We do not use your User Content to train artificial intelligence models, and we do not sell it. This also applies to the AI safety and translation systems we use: our providers process your content under no-training terms.
Votur is designed to stay warm and constructive. There are no comments, no direct messages, no reply threads, and no downvotes — the only negative path is a private report to our moderation team. The flip side is strict: we have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Content that breaks these Terms is removed from public areas of the Service — and in serious cases made fully inaccessible and the responsible account terminated.
Every new poll is automatically analysed shortly after posting — by AI systems that assess the text and any photos, including child-protection checks — before it can appear in Discover or other public areas. Clearly unsafe content (for example, sexual content involving minors, or content that objectifies real people) is rejected automatically. Borderline content is held for review by our human moderation team; while a poll is held it stays out of public areas, though its direct share link may keep working until a decision is made. The same automated analysis also assigns each poll's topic tags and prepares the translations described in Section 4. All moderation decisions, automated and human, are logged. If you believe an automated decision is wrong, you can always get human review (Section 6.4).
You can report any poll in the app via the report flag — on its card in the Discover feed, or at the top of a poll's page. On the web vote page, the Report link opens an email to us. Reports are confidential — the poll's creator is never told who reported. Every report is reviewed, and a poll reported by several people independently is automatically held from the public feed pending human review.
We review reports promptly. Where a report concerns objectionable content, we act on it within 24 hours — where warranted, removing the content and, for serious or repeated violations, restricting or terminating the responsible account. For anything else — including account-level issues such as impersonation or repeated abuse — email support@votur.app.
You can block another user. Blocking works in both directions in the feeds: their polls stop appearing in your feeds (including polls they posted anonymously) and your polls stop appearing in theirs. Invitations they send you are no longer shown to you, and blocking also removes your follow of them. The blocked person is not notified. You can review and lift blocks at any time in Settings → Privacy → Blocked users.
Depending on severity, we may remove or withhold content, issue a warning, restrict features, or suspend or terminate an account. For severe violations — content involving minors, illegal material, coordinated abuse — we may terminate immediately and without prior warning. Content that is removed or held stops appearing in public areas of the Service and may be made fully inaccessible, including via its share link. When a poll of yours is held or removed, you are told in the app (in the notification centre) with the reason; you can always ask us for more detail.
You may appeal any moderation decision — automated or human — by emailing support@votur.app with a brief description. A person will review it, free of charge, and we aim to respond within 14 days. If the internal appeal does not resolve the dispute, users in the European Union may be able to refer the matter to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under Article 21 of the EU Digital Services Act, or to the competent court (Section 15).
You agree to use the Service only for its intended purpose and in compliance with these Terms and applicable law. (The friendly version of these rules lives at votur.app/guidelines.) The following are prohibited:
We reserve the right to remove content and to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms (Section 6.4).
Sharing is voluntary, and it works like sharing a document link: every poll has a share link, and anyone who has the link can open the poll and vote on it — with or without an account. A public poll can additionally appear in the Discover feed and on your profile; a private poll is kept out of Discover and out of search engines, but its link still works for anyone you gave it to. Making a public poll private later stops new Discover exposure, but does not disable the link.
By sharing, you acknowledge that:
Anonymous posting hides your identity from other users, not from Votur: anonymous polls remain linked to your account, and these Terms — including your responsibility for the content and our moderation rights — apply to them in full.
Vote privacy. Poll results are only ever aggregate counts. A poll's creator can see who voted — for example on an invitation they sent — but Votur never shows which option any individual picked. When you invite someone from your contacts who is not on Votur, the link you send them is unique to that person, so the poll can show you that they voted.
You remain solely responsible for the content you share and must ensure you have all necessary rights and permissions, including the consent of any identifiable person in a photo. You can delete a poll at any time.
Votur is currently free of charge, and shows no advertising. If we introduce optional paid features in the app, purchases made inside the iOS or Android app will be offered through the Apple App Store or Google Play under the stores' billing terms. We will update these Terms and tell you before any charge applies.
In the future, the Discover feed may include clearly-labelled paid content from brands (such as sponsored or promoted polls) — always distinguishable from organic content, and never more than one in every eight feed items across all paid content combined. Votur does not show banner or display ads, and does not sell your personal data (see the Privacy Policy).
All intellectual property rights in the Service — including its software, design, and branding — remain with Votur or its licensors. You retain the rights you have in your User Content, subject to the license in Section 5. The Service includes third-party components (such as emoji artwork and fonts) used under their own licenses; the notices are available in the app under Settings → About → Licenses. You may not sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service itself, nor use it to build a competing product.
You can delete your polls at any time in the app, and you can delete your account directly in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or as described at votur.app/delete-account.
Account deletion removes your profile (including any personalisation details), your polls with their photos and share-cards, your Circles and follows, and your sign-in identity from our servers. Your votes on other people's polls remain counted but are anonymised — no longer linked to you. Usage data is anonymised on deletion and deleted automatically after 12 months. Reports you filed and blocks you set are deleted with your account; the log of moderation decisions is retained as our safety audit trail. If you signed in with Apple, deleting your account also revokes Votur's access to your Apple ID where possible; your Google or Apple account itself is never affected. See the Privacy Policy for full retention details.
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access and may modify or discontinue features at any time. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Votur disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Polls, their results, and quiz content are created by their creators — users or, for some starter content, the Votur team. A quiz's "correct" answer and explanation are the creator's claim — Votur does not independently verify them. Nothing on the Service is professional, medical, financial, or legal advice, and poll results are opinions, not facts. Please decide accordingly.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Votur shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid Votur in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) EUR 50. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.
If you use the iOS app, the following applies. These Terms are an agreement between you and Votur only — not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"), and Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content. Your license to use the iOS app is limited to a non-transferable license to use it on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service. Votur, not Apple, is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the app; Apple has no obligation to provide any, and no warranty obligation of any kind (the app is free, so there is no purchase price to refund). Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app — including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation. If a third party claims the app infringes their intellectual property rights, Votur, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of that claim. When using the app you must also comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement (for example, your wireless data service agreement). You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. To the extent Apple's standard End User License Agreement grants you broader rights, those rights apply.
If you obtained the app through Google Play, distribution is additionally subject to Google Play's own terms; nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under them.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also keep the protections of the mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence. Disputes shall be brought before the competent courts of the Netherlands, unless mandatory consumer protection law lets you sue or be sued at home.
Votur may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated within the Service before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after such updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms; if you do not agree with a change, stop using the Service and, if you wish, delete your account (Section 11).
